All three Costa Rica honeycreepers —the red-legged, shining, and green— are common sights just about anywhere that has low elevation and abundant food sources. The hard part in photographing them comes with finding one that hasn't made a mess of a recent meal and decided to show up without cleaning himself off first! But as luck would have it, a completely clean male in full adult plumage struck a perfect pose for me in Sarapiquí, where even the red leaves on the trees behind him couldn't compare to his bright red legs.
