Puffin Landing
Elliston, Newfoundland and Labrador
Landing a puffin isn't entirely different from landing an aircraft: lower the landing gear, cut the airspeed, turn into the wind, increase the angle of attack, and let gravity do the rest. Birds are constantly arriving and departing at nesting colonies, and even though it's a rather simple composition, a shot of a braking puffin with its wings spread and feet extended to land was one of the images on my wish list when I visited Newfoundland at the height of the summer season. As an added bonus, the nearly flat-calm water meant that there were no distractions in the background that might take attention away from the subject.
