Dunlin
Tierra Verde, Florida
Dunlins are medium-sized, stocky shorebirds that live at middle latitudes worldwide, going north to the Arctic each spring to breed. Right before they start on their way north, they develop a characteristic black patch on their stomachs, along with orange-red wings and streaks of black on their necks. When the light at the end of day gently saturates those colors, the dunlin turns into one of the prettiest birds on the beach.
