A rock wren perched on a piece of driftwood

Drifter

Victoria, British Columbia

A rock wren several hundred kilometres outside his expected territory in the British Columbia interior perches on a piece of driftwood in Victoria, a stone's throw away from the Pacific. Despite choosing the coast over the mountains and valleys where sighting a rock wren would be hardly unexpected, this particular bird stayed true to the species's preference for rocky areas with plenty of perches and hiding places. A stretch of shore piled with driftwood and lichen-covered rocks proved as good a place to call home as the inland valleys.
