A lucy's warbler standing on a blooming ocotillo

Lucy's Warbler

Green Valley, Arizona

Morning sunlight catches a Lucy's warbler, the only warbler species found in the Sonoran desert, as he perches on a blooming ocotillo. The plant hasn't grown out its leaves yet, but its flowers still attract numerous birds and insects, both of which feed eagerly on nectar. As a result, this warbler isn't alone on his perch of choice; there's a western honeybee for him to contend with as well.
