Freezing temperatures and icy water don't bother the lesser scaup, a species of sea duck that's well equipped to ride out the cold season. Winter sees them move in from the ocean and go up brackish inland waterways, including the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers. The drakes of this species have a gorgeous iridescence on their heads, but it only appears at just the right light angle.
