Keel-billed Toucan
Boca Tapada
The closer you get to a keel-billed toucan, the better you see why their Spanish name means "rainbow beak". Four out of the seven "ROYGBIV" colors are found in the bill alone, with even more on the throat, chest, and body. The same rule that I've heard applied to seagulls —point your camera at one and he'll probably do something interesting— holds just as true for toucans, and sometimes, that interesting thing is coming in so close that you choices narrow down to exactly two: either step back quickly to get the whole bird, or go with what he's giving you and take the Lord Nelson approach. "Never mind the maneuvers, go straight at them." The result of going with option B was an image I couldn't wait to process once I got home.
