Green Jay
Linn, Texas
A green jay takes advantage of the shade provided by a velvet mesquite tree to get out of the tropical sun. The species is hardly remarkable in its range, spanning from south Texas to the Yucatan, along with a narrow strip of the Mexican Pacific coast, but with only two jay species present in eastern Canada, the chance to photograph a green one is worth the flight down! Like their blue and gray cousins from up north, green jays can be feeder fiends, and don't seem to pay much attention to human photographers, provided we keep the peanuts coming.
