Full-white backgrounds are an option whenever the heavy winter snows make their way up the east coast and put Canada squarely in their crosshairs. It's not necessary to "Photoshop" anything out, since everything behind the subject that's buried under a foot of snow just blurs out to a plain white once the regular adjustments are applied in post-processing. I decided to shoot this friendly little woodpecker a bit smaller in the frame to highlight the branch and spruce cones. The bird may not be on a vertical surface, but as all woodpeckers are wont to do, he still makes full use of his tail as a kickstand.
