Dark Stranger
Elliston, Newfoundland and Labrador
He isn't tall, but the strong back-lighting from the morning sun means he's definitely dark, and handsomeness is a foregone conclusion. And as a gesture of devotion, he has arrived at sunrise with a flower for you. Do you accept? Just keep in mind that before falling head over heels for him, saying yes may involve the possibility of spending the entire summer in a puffin burrow, and the remaining months out at sea in the worst of whatever King Neptune decides to send your way. Choose carefully.
The red and orange tones from the earliest of the morning light had faded by the time I found this bird, but the sun was still low enough for me to create a silhouette image with plenty of water reflections. Based on the images I saw from some of the other photographers in attendance at Elliston that morning, our puffin friend had been parading around with his flower for quite some time!
