A tropical mockingbird in the rain

Tropical Mockingbird

La Trinidad de Dota

Mountain rain falls all around a tropical mockingbird, a species of middle and low altitude habitats. Within Costa Rica, this bird is likely an introduced exotic, having a natural range that is more or less split in two by Central America. Various field guides suggest that the Costa Rican population is descended from escaped cage birds, possibly brought in from Colombia. While it superficially resembles the northern mockingbird, the tropical mockingbird is visibly larger, about the size of a blue jay.
