Sometimes, a last-ditch effort pans out. I was freezing cold, the sun was almost all the way down, and enough wind was blowing across the field to run the America's Cup. I decided to intentionally shoot the wrong way, straight into the sun, with the goal of capturing the pink light and curtains of blowing snow all around the snowy owl. It was just another December day for her, no hindrance at all for a bird of prey so accustomed to frigid conditions, but I was surprised my fingers could work the camera by the time I left.
