Song Sparrow

Deep in the temperate rainforest outside the BC capital of Victoria, on Vancouver Island, a song sparrow hops onto a moss-covered log for a look around. The west coast subspecies of this sparrow is darker than the variety common to eastern North America, and has a slightly different song as well. Nevertheless, both are equally active singers that won't hesitate to defend their territories.
