About Jake

Born in Washington, DC, I moved to Montreal, Quebec in 2014, where I split my time between teaching and photographing birds. My academic research focuses on Jewish Studies and Early Modern Spain, and I have taught Spanish language and literature at Providence College, Mount Allison University, Collège de Valleyfield, and Université de Montréal. I also won Bronze in the 2023 Bird Photographer of the Year for my Canada jay image "Coming Storm", taken in 2022 in Adirondack Park. One of my favourite things to do is combine my passion for Spanish with my love of birds by photographing in Costa Rica, where I hope to run my own tours some day.

See something you have to have for your own wall? You can purchase with confidence knowing that your satisfaction is guaranteed, nothing is outsourced to third-party mass production labs, and only the finest archival pigment inks and fine art papers that I specially curate to bring out the best in my images are used for every print. Images are available in a variety of sizes and paper surfaces, and most can also be ordered as blank note cards. You can order directly from the gallery page, or head over to the prints page for more information. Thank you for supporting a working artist!
