Chestnut-backed Chickadee

A classic Canadian maple in full autumn orange makes a convenient stopping place for a chestnut-backed chickadee, a species with all the curious spunk and sass of the familiar black-capped, but with the black areas swapped out for reddish-brown. Finding a flock of these cute little birds is always a bonus in the many parks that dot the city of Victoria, and just like the chickadees back east, some of them don't hesitate to come over and all but demand an offering from human passersby. The autumn season served up a classic perch for this chickadee as around a half-dozen of his closest feathered friends were flitting about all around me.
