Buff-throated Saltator

Sarapiquí

Saltators are rather large, stocky birds that come in three varieties in Costa Rica: black-headed saltator, northern grey saltator, and buff-throated saltator, the third being by far the most common. They are a regular sight at low-elevation backyard feeders, where they supplement their diets of fruit and insects, so my mission was to capture one on an interesting perch!
